Search & Rescue Awareness (3 hrs) The Search & Rescue Awareness course is designed for First Responders including police, firefighters, EMS providers, C.E.R.T. arriving on the scene of a missing, lost or overdue person. One crucial of search and rescue is that “Search is an Emergency”. The lost person may be injured or exposed to the environment and the time that the response requires becomes critical. The course objective is to provide the participant with the knowledge necessary to identify when to categorize a search effort as an emergency. The common hazards associated with missing person searches, definitions and proper terminology, and how the NIMS Incident Command System plays an integral part in the search effort. Case scenarios will be discussed during the program. This program consists entirely of classroom lecture format and upon successful completion of the program the participant will have an awareness level of knowledge. This program meets the NFPA 1670 Standard for Awareness Level training. This program will not prepare the participant at an operational level due to time limitations of the program.
