Lost Alzheimer's Disease Search Management

A Law Enforcement Guide to Managing the initial response and investigation of the missing Alzheimer's Disease subject. The purpose of this course is to educate law enforcement officials to manage the initial response and investigation of the missing Alzheimer’s disease/demented incident.

The course covers the scope of the wandering problem, need for immediate field search, search management incident crucials, characteristics of lost Alzheimer’s subjects, initial report collection and action, initial search strategy, and reflex tasking of SAR resources. The course is intended for experienced law enforcement personnel with supervisory responsibilities who may be responsible for directing the initial response of the missing person incident involving a subject with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. The program focus is on the unique needs of the at-risk population and does not address more general search management practices. Up to 20 people per session.

  • Describe the increasing scope of wandering
  • Describe the increased urgency of initiating a search effort
  • Describe search management crucials
  • Describe characteristics of the lost wanderer
  • Demonstrate the ability to collect initial planning and searching data
  • List critical initial actions
  • Describe factors used to determine urgency
  • List resources required to conduct a search
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan for and deploy initial field resources
