On Wednesday, March 2, 2005 Eric Martin and Over the Edge, Inc. attended an award ceremony for the NYC Urban Park Service. We were extremely honored to be among honored guests and distinguished award recipients.

We at Over the Edge support the men and women of our armed services, placing their lives in harms way while protecting our country. We wish them a safe and swift return home!

Search & Rescue Awareness (3 hrs)
The Search & Rescue Awareness course is designed for First Responders including police, firefighters, EMS providers, C.E.R.T. arriving on the scene of a missing, lost or overdue person.


CERT - Search and Rescue Awareness (3.5 hrs)
This course is designed to teach CERT teams the basic foundation of search philosophy for ground search and rescue incidents. The program provides awareness level knowledge that would make the CERT group a practical resource utilized at the missing person incident.


Introduction to Search and Rescue (ISAR) (18 hrs)
This is a NASAR program designed as an introductory class for persons interested in becoming involved or just have become involved with search and rescue operations, and prepares the student for the SARTECH III certification examination.


SARTECH III Testing (2 hrs)
The SARTECH III level of certification is the beginning level for SAR personnel. The level is recommended for any person who responds to and functions on SAR missions. Persons who obtain this certification are to function within the limits of the certification describe in the NASAR standards for SARTECH III.


Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR) (48 hrs)
This is the next level of training after the ISAR program. The Fundamental of Search & Rescue program includes practical exercises and a mock search drill. The Fundamentals of Search & Rescue class is designed to prepare the student for the SARTECH II certification examination.


SARTECH II Testing (14 hrs)
The SARTECH II level of certification is the intermediate level for SAR personnel. The level is recommended for any person who functions on SAR missions as field searchers. Persons who obtain this certification are to function within the limits of the certification describe in the NASAR standards for SARTECH II.


Managing the Lost Person Incident (MLPI)
The Managing the Lost Person Incident course is designed to teach the essential knowledge and skills necessary to perform as the initial response Incident Commander on a lost person incident. The course prepares the student for the management responsibilities and leadership skills required during SAR missions.


Lost Alzheimer's Disease Search Management
A Law Enforcement Guide to Managing the initial response and investigation of the missing Alzheimer's Disease subject. The purpose of this course is to educate law enforcement officials to manage the initial response and investigation of the missing Alzheimer’s disease/demented incident.


Patient Packaging (5 hrs)
Learn various techniques for preparing a patient for evacuation from hazardous terrain situations.


Wilderness Evacuation (14 hrs)
A hands on practical course in patient transport out of remote locations where traditional means of patient transport are not available.


Swiftwater Rescue Awareness (3.5 hrs)
This class is focused on First Responders and those supporting Swiftwater Rescue Teams, such as Police Officers, firefighters, EMTs, Animal Rescue Groups and C.E.R.T. teams.


Swiftwater Rescue (20 hrs)
This program teaches the student techniques covering shore based rescue in slow to swiftwater operations.


Confined Space Awareness (3.5 hrs)
The focus of this program is to provide the participant with knowledge necessary to discriminate between non-permit and permit-required confined spaces and the hazards associated with them.


Confined Space Entry (8 hrs)
A program that meets OSHA training guidelines for permit required confined space entries.


Confined Space & Vertical Rescue (40 hrs)
A program designed to establish rescue personnel for permit required confined space entry rescue situations. Confined Space Entry and a current CPR/1st Aid certification is a prerequisite for this program.


Introduction to Rappelling (16 hrs)
An introduction to the vertical environment, providing the student with basic concepts of rappelling.


Basic Rope Rigging & Rescue (40 hrs)
This program will provide the student with knowledge to identify all four-terrain angles, use proper nomenclature, and learn useful knots, bends, and hitches. Upon completion of the BRR&R course the student will be confident and competent in the vertical environment.


Intermediate Rope Rigging & Rescue (40 hrs)
The IRR program focus is to teach the student various rescue techniques for victims in wilderness environments requiring carryout, or in steep and high angle terrain. The program also addresses the advantages and disadvantages of solo vs. team based rescue systems.


Advanced Rope Rigging & Rescue (40 hrs)
Learn advanced rigging techniques such as A-frames, gin poles, and jiggered systems to perform complicated rescues.


Trench Rescue Awareness (3.5 hrs)
The overall intent of this program is to provide a better understanding of extraordinary risks, mechanism of injuries and treatment during these incidents and improve interaction between the private sector and public safety groups during response to these incidents.


NJSP HAZMAT : Level 1 Awareness (4 hrs)
First Responders at the awareness level are individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and who have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release.


NJSP HAZMAT : Level 2 EMS Operations
Provides EMS personnel with information on how to respond to a medical emergency at a hazardous materials incident.


Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive (CBRNE)/Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) : Level 1 Awareness (4 hrs)
This lecture will familiarize students with the recognition of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism and the defensive actions they may use in a response to a terrorist incident.


ARC Wilderness First Aid Basics
The American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Basics Course is a course for those who, live or play in remote areas - away from the usual EMS service. The types of activities and persons needing more advanced training in first aid could be: * Hikers and Backpackers *Kayakers and canoers * Farm workers *Utility workers *Forest Rangers *Law enforcement and rescue crews *Disaster situations


Workplace First Aid and Adult CPR (4 hrs)
The purpose of the ARC Workplace Training: Standard First Aid course is to give individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid for injuries and sudden illnesses and provide care until emergency medical services can arrive on scene.


Infant CPR (4 hrs)
The purpose of the ARC Infant CPR course is to give individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants until emergency medical services can arrive on scene.


Child CPR (4 hrs)
The purpose of the ARC Child CPR course is to give individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in children until emergency medical services can arrive on scene.


Infant and Child CPR (8 hrs)
The purpose of the ARC Infant & Child CPR course is to give individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children until emergency medical services can arrive on scene.


CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (8 hrs)
A course designed for those with a duty to act, with focus on proficiency in skills required to save adult, child and infant victims in respiratory or cardiac distress, plus 2-rescuer CPR, additional airway management procedures, universal precautions, use of barrier devices and AED's.


Emergency Response (44.5 to 53 hrs)
The course content and activities will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in an emergency. The course teaches the skills a first responder needs to act as a crucial link in the emergency medical services (EMS) system.


Workplace Violence Awareness Module (1 hr)
The purpose of the ARC Workplace Violence Awareness module is to give individuals in the workplace an introduction to the knowledge necessary to identify and reduce the risk of workplace violence.


Lifeguard Training
Become an aquatic professional, learn professional lifesaving techniques, and gain leadership skills. This course will cover the skills needed to certify you to be a lifeguard. This class will provide you with lifeguarding skills, CPR for the professional rescuer and first aid.


ARC Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Diesase Transmission
The purpose of the American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Diesase Transmission course is to provide professional rescuers with an understanding of the intent of the Bloodborne Pathogens regulation issued by the Federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA); how bloodborne pathogens are spread; precautions to prevent exposure incidents and how to recognize, report and follow up on exposure to infectious materials.


NIMS 700 – An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
This course introduces NIMS and takes approximately three hours to complete. It explains the purpose, principles, key components and benefits of NIMS.


Incident Command System – 100
ICS 100, Introduction to the Incident Command System, introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training.


Incident Command System – 200
ICS-200 provides training on and resources for personnel who are likely to assume a supervisory position within the ICS.


Incident Command System – 300
This course provides training on and resources for personnel who require advanced application of the Incident Command System (ICS).


G402 Incident Command System (ICS) Overview for Executives/Senior Officials
An ICS orientation for executives, administrators, and policy makers. It provides a basic understanding of ICS, Unified and Area Command, and Multi-agency coordination to those persons responsible for setting or implementing policy, but who normally are not part of the on-scene ICS organization.


Firecraft (4.5 hrs)
Our Firecraft is just a blast of a class! It provides the participant with the opportunity to actually build a fire which is a must have skill for survival situations.


The Disaster Preparedness for Home & Business (3.5 hrs)
The Disaster Preparedness for Home & Business course will discuss how to develop an emergency action plan that will increase your chance of survival during small emergencies and large scale disasters.


The Map & Compass Program (8.5 hrs)
The use of map and compass is one of the most basic of outdoor skills. This class is designed to provide enough information and practical experience that students will feel comfortable with land navigation techniques.
